Top 5 Reasons To Join A CrossFit Gym

CrossFit can seem a little intimidating to someone on the outside, but we're here to tell you why you should join a gym as soon as possible!

Maybe you’ve heard about CrossFit but have been nervous about stepping into a CrossFit gym (which is referred to as a “box” by crossfitters).

Maybe you’ve caught a few minutes of the CrossFit Games while flipping through the channels one day, and were intrigued, but weren’t sure if it was for you.

Whatever the reason may be, you’ve heard of CrossFit, but you haven’t actually experienced it for yourself.

We’re here to tell you, it’s time. It’s time to put on your best sleeveless shirt, and take the plunge.

Here are the Top 5 reasons to join a CrossFit gym.

5. The Camaraderie Is Amazing

One thing you’ll notice as soon as you join a CrossFit gym is that everyone acts as one big support system. Whether a fellow crossfitter is helping you perfect a lift, or they’re rooting you on to help you get through your workout, everyone is there for everyone else.

This camaraderie even extends outside the gym. When I was diagnosed with cancer back in January — FYI, I kicked its ass — my entire gym was there for me.

We don’t just lift weights, we lift each other up, as well (sometimes literally).

4. You’ll Unleash Your Inner Awesome

When you first start working out at a CrossFit gym, you’ll walk in for class, see the WOD (Workout of the Day) on the board, and initially think, My God! This is insane! There’s no way I can complete this!

After you warm up and figure out how you’re going to scale the workout (everyone does the movements at weights they can handle), the clock begins to count down. You hear the beep, beep, beeeep, indicating it’s go time, and you start goin’ hard, REALLY hard.

Then a funny thing happens when your coach yells, “Time,” and the workout is over: you’ve found you’ve done a heck of a lot more than you thought you would — you might have even completed the entire thing!

This also happens with AMRAP workouts (As Many Rounds As Possible). You’ll look at the workout, think you’ll only get through a few rounds, and then when the time is up you’ll see you blew that prediction out of the water.

Every time you step into a CrossFit gym, it’s an opportunity to unleash your inner awesome. And every time you do that, you feel like a superhero.

Who doesn’t want to feel like a superhero?

3. Better Results In Less Time

One of the most popular excuses people use for not working out is that they claim they don’t have the time. This, I believe, comes from an imagined vision of people being at the gym for three hours a day. Do some people do this? Yes, and for the most part, they’re ridiculous.

CrossFit teaches you that your warmup, workout and cool down can all happen in the span of an hour.

Guess what? This means you totally have the time to work out, and as a bonus, you’ll see better results than those three hour marathon lifters, because your workouts will actually make sense.

2. It Will Improve Your Overall Quality Of Life

In addition to being a crossfitter, I’m also a martial artist, and it didn’t take long to see my martial arts skills improve thanks to CrossFit.

On a more universal level, with CrossFit, running to catch the train goes from feeling like, “Oh my God, please wait for me! I’m gonna make it, I swear!” to, “I’m totally gonna make this train by 30 seconds. Just watch.”

Grocery bags suddenly feel lighter when you’re taking them out of your car.

To put it succinctly: everything becomes a little bit easier.

Because CrossFit combines strength training with movement/gymnastics skills, you find yourself being able to do more in life, and do it longer.

Yes, even “that.” Hell, especially that!

1. You’ll Become Sexy AF

Whether you’re a woman looking for a Beyonce booty, or you’re a guy who simply wants to feel confident taking his shirt off at the beach, or in the grocery store (hey, the cereal aisle isn’t hot until I make it hot!), CrossFit is the road that will lead you there.

Obviously, it’s a road that takes work, but as I often tell people who are “trying to lose a few pounds,” ignore the scale, believe the mirror. When you start seeing results in the mirror, it becomes addictive in the best possible way.

One day you’ll step out of the shower, look in the mirror, and think, “Daaaaamn, I look good!”

That’s right, you’re sexy AF, and if you lacked confidence before, you have it in bucketloads now!
