Ugliest Cars Ever Made
Tesla’s Cybertruck was unveiled to much criticism over its geometric, futuristic appearance. To me , it does not even look like a truck at all. I am not alone. Forbes called the Cybertruck as “ugly as a sin” in a scathing review.
Here are some of the ugliest designed cars ever made.
You will see some of these and say, “what were they thinking?”
Nissan Cube
Square and boxy, what do you expect from a car named “Cube.” Nissan describes the grill as inspired by a bulldog wearing shades. Do you see that?
AMC Pacer
The Pacer was a hot seller from 1975 to 1980. Design work began in 1971. The rounded shape and large glass area were unusual compared with the three-box designs of the era.
Stout Scarab
William Stout envisioned the Scarab as a ‘traveling office on wheels,’ so it came equipped with a table that could be removed. The Stout Scarab was a road fixture from the 1930–1940s American car market.
The Corbin Sparrow
The original single passenger electric commuter car. Efficient and “Green” has never been more fun or more ugly. The car was produced from 1999 into the early 2010s. It was initially produced by Corbin Motors, and subsequently after 2005, by Myers Motors.
AMC Gremlin
The Gremlin was introduced on April’s Fool Day 1970. The Gremlin was American Motors Corp.’s answer to imported fuel-efficient subcompacts like the Volkswagen Beetle and the Toyota Corolla.
Fiat Multipla
This is my favorite ugly car. I really don’t understand the exterior design, but that may be its brilliance. Unfortunately, many folks, considered the Multipla the ugliest cars in the world EVER.
Toyota Prius
The Prius revolutionized hybrid technology, but its first-generation design left many scratching their heads. Its odd proportions and awkward shape made it a standout for all the wrong reasons.
Chrysler PT Cruiser
A retro-inspired design that tried to capture the charm of classic cars but ended up looking awkward and cartoonish. Despite its divisive looks, it enjoyed a loyal fan base.
Chevrolet Chevette
Cheap and practical, but with a design that screamed economy car in the worst way. The Chevette’s plain, uninspired styling made it a forgettable, if not unattractive, vehicle.
Dodge A100
This compact van from the 1960s had a boxy, upright design that looked more at home in a cartoon than on the road. Its flat front end and slab-sided body made it a visual oddity.
Chevrolet El Camino
A car/truck hybrid that never quite looked right. The El Camino’s design straddled the line between utility and sportiness but ended up looking like neither.
Citroën BX
A uniquely angular design that only Citroën could produce. While innovative in some respects, the BX’s styling has aged poorly, making it one of the brand’s more controversial designs.
Geo Metro
Designed for fuel efficiency, not looks. The Metro’s tiny, bubbly design gave it an almost toy-like appearance that didn’t inspire much confidence on the road.
DeLorean DMC-12
Made famous by the “Back to the Future” movies, the DeLorean’s stainless steel body and gull-wing doors were futuristic but not universally loved. Some found its angular, wedge-like design unattractive.
Pontiac Aztek
Perhaps the most infamous ugly car of all time, the Aztek’s mishmash of clashing design elements made it a commercial flop but a cult classic.
Smart Fortwo
Its tiny size and quirky proportions make it practical for city driving but visually polarizing. The Smart car’s stubby shape and tall profile are far from conventional beauty.
Volkswagen Thing
Originally designed for military use, the VW Thing’s boxy, utilitarian design is as unconventional as its name. With flat panels and a no-frills appearance, it looks more like an off-road crate than a passenger vehicle.
These cars may not have won any beauty contests, but they have certainly left a lasting impression in automotive history.
