The Messages

He watched from his front porch as the sky grew dark over his quiet neighborhood. He could hear his five adopted children in the house behind him, preparing for dinner time.

Their mom had left to buy groceries, and she hadn’t returned yet.

A Cold Night

The two went to sleep that night without even saying goodnight. For the first time in their lives as a couple, they slept with their backs to each other.

After thinking about it for a moment, he decided to go into his wife’s phone book.

He hated prying any further, but he needed to know exactly what was going on in his life. 

Calling The Doctor

Mike found the doctor’s number and copied her number into his own phone. With that accomplished, he could go ahead with the next phase of his plan.

He looked at the phone number and closed his eyes. He was about to do something that he would never be able to take back.

He was about to call the doctor.

Hitting Call

After hitting the call button, he listened to the dial tone and felt sweat beading down his brow.

It was too late to go back now. After ten seconds of waiting, the doctor answered the phone, “hello.”

Mike’s voice was shaky, “Hi, I’m Mike, Marissa’s husband. Would you mind putting my mind at ease? (cat3movie.org) I know Marissa’s pregnant, but I need to know how that’s possible.”

Putting His Mind At Ease

“Hi Mike, this is normally confidential information, but since you’re Marissa’s husband, I guess it’s only right that you know what’s going on.”

Mike felt his heart beat faster, was she about to hit him with the truth like a ton of bricks?

Or would he be disappointed yet again? The next words to leave her mouth stunned him.

Walking In

Just as the doctor told Mike the truth, Marissa walked back into the house. His mouth was wide open as he finished the conversation with, “Thanks Doc, I gotta go,” and put the phone down.

He looked at Marissa and wondered if she was aware that he knew that she knew the truth.

He was about to shake her entire world with his discovery so much that their lives would never be the same again.

The Truth

Tears filled his eyes as he grabbed Marissa and hugged her. “We’re having a baby?” he said in a choked voice. The truth that Mike had just heard on the phone was much simpler than he ever could have expected.

It was a miracle. It seemed that somehow, against all odds, Marissa was pregnant with his baby. It was the happiest day of his life.
