Waking Up

Lily woke up and touched the back of her head. It was sore for some reason.

She couldn’t remember much of what had happened to her but would soon figure it out. 

The sky was much darker than she remembered, or was that just her eyes adjusting to waking up? But then, something terrifying dawned on her.

No Dog

Lily didn’t know where she was; she was afraid and alone. She knew she was lying on her back, but not much more than that.

Then she felt pulled slightly with her left hand; she was still holding her dog’s leash. 

Then, a horrifying revelation came over her. She realized that there was no resistance. She pulled until a collar was dragged into view. Without him, what would she do?

Back Home

Back home, her parents were worried sick. Lily had disappeared three days ago, and her parents were worried sick.

They had no idea their daughter’s stroll into the woods would end in tragedy.

But they weren’t ready for what they were going to find coming out of the edge of the forest. The worst thing would be what was in his mouth.

Coming Out Of The Woods

Lily’s parents were sitting in their backyard like they had been every day for the last three days.

Their eyes were fixed on the edge of the woods towards where their daughter had walked a few days prior.

That’s when they saw something that they couldn’t believe. Tito, the pitbull, came walking out of the forest. He looked like he’d been in a fight, but where was Lily?

Where Was Lily?

The parents ran out to the dog, who seemed tired and battle-worn. He nearly collapsed in their arms.

They petted him and consoled the poor pup. But that’s when Lily’s dad looked around; where was Lily?

He’d hoped to see her come out shortly after her dog, but she was nowhere to be seen. Then, he made the mistake of noticing that the dog had something in his mouth.

After walking for twenty minutes, Lily was walking through the overgrowth and getting close to a spot she loved.

Lily slowly propped herself up using a stick that was conveniently placed. She couldn’t put a lot of pressure on her left leg and used it as a crutch.

She knew she had to limp home before it was too late.

She noticed a small patch of ground near her that looked like an animal had been lying there. It must have been Tito watching over her.

Horrifying Scene

Lily limped up to the ledge where she had fallen and managed to find a way to climb up. But once she had, she was met with a horrifying scene.

That’s when the sounds of her yelping dog came back to her. This is what must have been following her.

She saw a lot of red on the leaves of the forest floor. But more than that, she saw a carcass just meters away. What had happened?

A Cougar

Lily couldn’t believe what she saw. There was the body of a cougar lying on the ground. It must have been the animal that was following her.

It made her sad that cougars are endangered in Michigan, but she knew it was either her life or the animal’s.

Tito must have protected her, but where was he? And was he hurt? She had no idea how close he actually was, along with his escorts.

Found

Before Lily had a moment to think about the situation she was in, she noticed the sound of movement behind her.

She spun around to see what was nearby, but she breathed a sigh of relief when Tito came through the bushes.

But he wasn’t alone. She saw her parents emerge as well. They ran up to hug her, and the family was reunited. They used Tito to get back home, but there was still a serious concern.

Lily’s Condition

Lily’s parents took her straight to the nearest hospital once they heard that she had been unconscious for nearly three days. It was a serious issue that no one took lightly.

But after numerous tests, the doctors finally felt comfortable discharging her. They said it was remarkable that she didn’t have any brain damage. Lily learned her lesson and respected nature more than ever before.
